I had dinner a few months ago here and enjoyed the meal. Had a business lunch today so thought it was a good opportunity to return. Unfortunately it was not a great experience. I specifically asked the server if the description of the menu item was accurate and was informed it was. The item arrived with an ingredient that I can't eat, and when the server checked on our meals I asked again, and assumed I had just missed it on the menu. The server said it was indeed included in the menu description. After she left my guest (who had ordered the same item) informed me that it was not on the menu. The server returned and had an odd update/explanation and acknowledged what they told me was incorrect, and said they were "chatting" with the kitchen about it. They offered a weak solution ("new tops" for the sandwich) but I said I would eat around it, as it was a lunch meeting we had limited time. I am surprised a hotel and a restaurant charging what they do would not be more concerned about serving something to guests this way and not be accountable for what you say you are serving versus what you actually serve. I went out of my way to ensure what I was eating was what I thought I was ordering and to have three conversations to get to that place seems ridiculous. For our trouble the server made a big deal out of comping our coffees and I got the impression this was considered to be a significant gesture. Finally when I paid the server returned to say that the payment had declined. I paid again and it declined. The server said "are you paying by debit" (I was) and said "these machines don't like debit' and seemed very annoyed and said they would get another machine. It seemed very much an imposition and like I was the problem. And this point we just wanted to get out of there so I said I would pay by credit card. I can't believe I was getting attitude while I was trying to tip this person, and I am kicking myself for tipping as much as I did. Very disappointing, and I won't be back. Just came into Ottawa for a work function and had the chance to have dinner at Prova Bar & Kitchen. Typically hotel restaurants are basic at best, but not Prova. Food was incredibly delicious and plentiful. Bartender made the best Cosmo I have ever had and the service was next level. Definitely will eat here again! 5 out of 5!
