I care about writing a review on the Seminaris CampusHotel for reasons that will be clear immediately. Today, this hotel is a pleasure to visit: the staff is kind and efficient, and everything proceeds smoothly, from check-in to check-out. I have often stayed at this hotel, at different times, for different reasons and durations, for the last 17 years. The location is very convenient, quiet, very well connected with other key parts of Berlin, and immersed in the campus of the Freie Universität. I have always appreciated all this, as well as the generous offer at breakfast and, before the Covid pandemic, the high quality of the menu at the Papillon restaurant, which has since closed. Still, I never felt at ease. Why? The staff at the reception have constantly been unpleasant; one could never feel welcome at check-in and, at the very least, was ignored at check-out; if you happened to ask a question, they responded – without even looking at you – as if you had disturbed them in some deep thought, and could even be unbelievably rude. Colleagues and friends of mine recounted similar experiences to mine. So… after the unacceptable, outrageous way I was treated last January by one particularly incompetent and needlessly aggressive member of the reception staff, I decided to avoid going back to the hotel and did so for a while. Lately, however, I changed my mind because the location of the hotel is too convenient for me and… I had the most welcome surprise. The new staff at the reception were kind, welcoming, smiling (!) and caring. Especially the man I recognized as the new manager, who had only recently started. I have returned twice lately and now I do feel really good there. Congratulations and thanks to the new manager and to the new staff!
