This independent, family-run café and delicatessen is one of Reading’s true hidden gems. ️ The menu features traditional favourites including feijoada (with vegan options), daily home-cooked stews, moqueca, salt cod fishcakes, Brazilian cheese balls, and the ever-popular pastéis de nata. You can also browse their delicatessen for Brazilian and Portuguese ingredients, meats, seafood, and speciality products to enjoy at home. As a coffee lover, this was the highlight for me. Pau Brasil proudly serves Delta Cafés, one of Portugal’s most respected coffee roasters. The coffee is a beautifully balanced dark roast with rich chocolate notes, a smooth body, and just the right touch of acidity. It’s expertly prepared, allowing every flavour to shine through. Housed in a charming whitewashed two-storey building with distinctive blue windows, the café offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere that reflects genuine Brazilian and Portuguese tradition. It’s authentic, unpretentious, and full of character. My first impression was an easy 10/10. Walking inside quickly turned that into a 14/10. The food, coffee, atmosphere, and friendly service create an experience that’s difficult to match. After 22 years in the same location, Pau Brasil continues to prove why independent cafés are so important to our communities. really enjoyed the food here. we had coxinha and bacalhau, feijão, then coconut ice cream and house pudim. everything was delicious, full of flavour and the staff were lovely. definitely coming back. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
