I had been looking forward to dining at Pegasus to celebrate a personal milestone, so I was disappointed by the experience. When I arrived, I asked for a table for one in both the bar and restaurant. A member of staff suggested a small table, but I wasn't consulted about whether it would be suitable before being shown to it. When I reached the table, I found it to be considerably smaller than I had expected. A simple conversation beforehand would have helped manage expectations and allowed me to decide whether I was comfortable with it. I asked whether it would be possible to sit outside instead. I was told I could only have the table for one hour and that the outdoor tables were fully booked. I completely understand that restaurants have reservations to honour, and I wasn't expecting other guests to be moved. My disappointment was less about availability and more about the way the situation was handled. I explained to the manager that I didn't feel comfortable with the table and how the experience had made me feel. He told me not to take it personally and said there wasn't much that could be done. Unfortunately, there was little attempt to find an alternative or recover the experience. A waitress later kindly offered to see whether outside seating might be possible, for which I was grateful, but by then I no longer felt comfortable staying. What stayed with me most was not the table itself, but the feeling that, as a solo diner, I wasn't made to feel particularly welcome or that I belonged there. Good hospitality is about making every guest feel seen, valued and comfortable, regardless of whether they're dining alone or with others. This was especially disappointing as someone who works locally and had hoped Pegasus would become somewhere I could return to regularly. Given its reputation and affiliation with the legal community, I had expected a higher standard of customer care. I had chosen Pegasus to celebrate a personal milestone, so it was particularly disappointing to leave without dining. I hope this feedback is received in the constructive spirit in which it is intended, as I believe better communication and a more customer-focused approach could have transformed the experience.
