Came here for an open mic night. Staff were really friendly and conversational. Overall atmosphere was really welcoming. We just had drinks but pizza looked quite good too. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We had a very disappointing experience at Pizza Rustica last week after watching the Portugal vs. Croatia game. We enjoyed the game itself, but as we were leaving, some of us wanted to use the washroom. Suddenly, the owner came and said the washroom was out of service. When I mentioned that there were people waiting, he then admitted there was a big lineup, which is why he said it was out of service. I told him he could have simply explained that there was a wait, because some of us genuinely needed to use the washroom and may have been willing to wait. Instead of handling the situation calmly, he became aggressive and came very close to my face, saying it was his mouth and he could say whatever he wanted. It really made me uncomfortable. He also said he could have allowed us to use his personal washroom if we had spent more money. When we sat down, no one told us there was a minimum spend requirement. Later, when my wife calmly approached him to discuss the situation, he said we had to spend $45 per person, but this was never communicated to us before we were seated. During that conversation, he used the B-word and F-word toward my wife in front of other patrons in the restaurant, which was extremely sad, disrespectful, and completely unacceptable. Having run a restaurant myself for 20 years, I completely understand the pressure, frustration, and hard work that comes with running a busy restaurant, especially during major sporting events. I also understand that restaurants want to make the most of those high-demand days. But from a hospitality perspective, being aggressive toward customers is a big no-no. Clear communication, respect, and basic courtesy should always come first. A minimum spend policy should be clearly communicated before customers are seated. A washroom issue should be explained honestly and respectfully. And no customer should ever be intimidated, verbally abused, or disrespected for asking a reasonable question. Going through reviews in Google it seems there is a pattern of this behaviour from the owner. I hope the management takes this seriously. Busy nights can be stressful, but stress is never an excuse to treat customers with aggression, use abusive language, or insult someone’s family in front of other guests. We respect everyone's right to share their experience, but we do need to correct several inaccuracies.Your group consisted of approximately 12 people who came in during one of our busiest match days. Before your group was seated, our staff clearly explained our minimum spend policy, and your group agreed to it before entering. Ultimately, the group ordered only two orders of wings to be shared among approximately 12 people, along with a few beverages.Regarding the washroom, one of our two washrooms had been damaged by guests by the previous group and was out of service. That left only one washroom available for the entire restaurant, which unfortunately resulted in a long wait. We understand this was inconvenient, but it was due to circumstances beyond our control.We also respectfully disagree with the characterization of our interaction. Our team works extremely hard during major sporting events to accommodate as many guests as possible while ensuring a fair experience for everyone. We expect our staff to treat guests with respect, and we also expect our policies—which were explained before entry—to be respected.We value honest feedback and are always looking for ways to improve, but we also believe it's important that reviews accurately reflect what occurred.
