Extremely disappointed. We were a group of 9 and the food was not great. I love Italian food, I’ve been to many Italian restaurants, I go to Italy once a year and this is probably the worst Italian food I’ve ever eaten. The beef lasagna I ordered was covered in melted cheese with a moat of cheese around the lasagna, which I’ve never seen before. I really like cheese, but this was too much. I tried to take as much cheese off as possible, but everything tasted of cheese, I couldn’t really taste any of the beef. There was no side dish, which you usually get in other restaurants. My lasagna came out later than everyone else’s due to the cook missing it off the order, but that didn’t bother me too much and I understand sometimes this can happen. Other dishes didn’t look great. My husband had a tomato base pasta dish and said it wasn’t good and was overpowered by chilli. My son had fried chicken and chips and it was quite dry. He asked for tomato ketchup, but he never got any. My step dad’s said he didn’t enjoy his burger. The occasion was for his 70 birthday , which he mentioned to the manager/owner when we arrived, but he never got any special treatment, instead he told us off when we revealed a birthday cake at the end of the meal and said to my parents we shouldn’t of brought it and can you be discreet! So we had to sing happy birthday really quite!! Now looking back it’s quite funny. That’s one way to treat your customers! You definitely won’t have any if you carry on like this. The meal was over £300, so it wasn’t like we were keeping the cost down. I’m afraid we will not be coming back. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £100+

We ate here for the first time last night. Very friendly, great food and great service. I love Italian and usually judge the food by the quality of the bruschetta. Theirs is excellent. One of the best I have had. Our mains were also excellent. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £20–30

Me and partner have been coming since 2023 and we’ve never had a bad experience. We absolutely love it here. The food is very tasty, the service is always brilliant and the staff are so attentive that you couldn’t possibly ask for more. We came tonight for a meal and just had such a lovely time. The staff make you feel like family. They gave me and my partner a drink on the house as a congratulations to us being pregnant with our little girl! I asked for milk as my celebratory drink as it’s my pregnancy craving and the lovely gentleman who I believe is the owner even topped it up again free of charge! This kind gesture was just so heart warming. Me, my partner and baby are so appreciative. Thank you ever so much portobello team, you guys are amazing! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £30–40
