Surprise visit after visiting the Marilyn Monroe exhibition. This restaurant did not disappoint, great food, great service, good views of London rooftops, Nelson's column, the London eye.....defo recommend by moi Meal type: Lunch Price per person: £50–60

I visited The Portrait yesterday. Upon arrival, staff were very friendly and seated me at my table immediately. I liked that they were attentive enough to ask if I wanted water however, I didn't appreciate the fact that they only offered water that you had to buy. I understand it's the nature of the business but that water was £5. I travelled a long way and was flustered from the journey so it completely caught me off guard. I didn't make a complaint however, I didn't appreciate practically being thrust overpriced water upon arrival and then opening it and serving me which meant I had to buy it. Like I said, nature of the business but I think it's incredibly rude to do to patrons. I opted for the two-course set menu and got the onion soup which was divine. I'm not an onion person nor a soup person but this soup was amazing. I wish they were a little bit more generous with the croutons as I received a long, skinny crouton that couldn't factor the amount of soup in there. It was very filling as well. The main course was braised lamb linguine which I found to be horrible. It was dry pasta with lamb, drenched in olive oil. I thought it was disgusting and forced myself to eat it since I was paying for it after all. The rest of the menu was fish which I don't eat and it was the only meat option. I just wished the meat option was just actually tasty. Overall, I had a nice time. The views were gorgeous, the vibe was lovely and the staff were attentive. Service was very fast and the staff were very nice and polite. Especially as a solo diner, I didn't feel lost. On top of the set menu, I got two drinks so with service charge, this cost me £52. Would've been £47 if not for watergate so please be aware and don't be shy to ask for tap water like I was! Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £50–60 Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5
