Ah! We have been waiting for this reply! If we were abrupt when you came in I apologise; we were very busy and it had turned very hot. The staff were working like demons to serve everyone as soon as possible. The long comment about sugar: Pasta Bolognese is homemade. WE DO NOT USE SUGAR. I am sorry that you thought it tasted "funny" but as we pointed out we had served it twice that morning before you arrived. In fact a customer sitting by the front door was eating his as you stormed out. He just laughed and said his was delicious! I cannot explain what you were tasting but there was nothing wrong with what we produced. NOW the fuss and nonsense about our "Fire Exit"; For those customers who do not know our business, we have a very small kitchen which contains a tall fridge and a half sized freezer. It is also crammed full of cooking equipment. Basically we have no space for huge amounts of stock. We keep the most commonly required items in the kitchen only. Just outside the back door (Fire Exit) we have built a purpose-designed bulk storeroom. It contains 5 freezers, 2 fridges and shelving for dry goods. It is spotlessly clean, brightly lit and temperature controlled. In fact it is an Environmental Health requirement that this area has daily temperature checks etc. We clearly would not have a 5 star hygiene rating if this storage area was not approved. I would guess that you have a small kitchen and probably a freezer in another room or the garage? Many people do as kitchens are very small these days. You seem to take offence that we need to go out of a door into a store and carry a frozen, fully sealed product, upstairs to our kitchen. You go shopping in a supermarket and have your products moved from their "storage" via the back of your car into your kitchen. What is the difference? In any food business, storage space is at a premium, and bulk storage is often outside the main building. If we stored all food inside the main building we would have no room for customers!!!! If you don't believe me, next time you are at Roche services, have a walk around the back of the carpark and see how much space the big retailers take up with bulk storage (usually next to rubbish bins!). No wonder the backs of these units have high fences! You were also asked to keep your toys, books, paper, pencils away from the main route through the room. Your children were taking over! I assume you thought this was retaliation for your complaint. It was purely a safety issue.
