My wife and I have spent years chasing well-made drinks across cities and continents, and we had already marked Prohibition as a destination before our bags were unpacked. The entrance ritual—a discreet knock at what appears to be an unassuming door—delivers on its promise. One steps inside and is instantly deposited into a dimly lit 1920s parlor, where an eclectic but never intrusive soundtrack of jazz and blues sets the tone. The effect is less theme-park nostalgia than genuine atmospheric transport. On our first visit we met Tom, a bartender whose command of his craft extends well beyond the shaker. He moves with the quiet authority of someone who has internalized not only mixology but the broader histories of spirits and the music that once accompanied them. In a profession crowded with competent practitioners, Tom is the rare figure who feels genuinely masterful—precise without pedantry, knowledgeable without showmanship. He and his colleague William turned Prohibition into our default landing spot after dinner for three consecutive evenings, a distinction few bars anywhere earn from discerning repeat visitors. We worked our way through a series of classics that arrived not merely competent but elevated: an Old Fashioned that respected the form while revealing new layers, a silky Brandy Alexander, a properly bracing French 75, a Manhattan of perfect balance, the theatrical Bananas Foster, and the house’s justly celebrated Black Forest. Each was executed with the sort of confidence that makes the familiar feel fresh. The bourbon selection, meanwhile, rivals the best dedicated whiskey bars we’ve encountered, offering depth enough to satisfy even the most jaded enthusiast. There are precious few craft-cocktail establishments that combine this level of technical skill, atmospheric integrity, and unpretentious hospitality. Ssssh don’t tell everyone about this place. My bother in law said ..Do you fancy going to a bar where you have to knock on a door to be let in. Thought he was kidding. knock knock. Dooor opens and omg the Doorman was huge. 6ft8in in height. A polite gentle giant of a man. The hostess greeted us and showed us to your table. Now it’s called the prohibition bar for a reason. A bottle of water with 4small glasses kind of takes you back to what it could be like in those days. The smell of incense hits you are you walk into the room. I love the smell of burning incense sticks. Anyway..hostess bring you a bookyes it’s a book. Remember you are in a prohibition bar so no menu is provided as such. Flick through the book and BOOM there is the secret menu. Atmosphere is amazing . Music is amazing ..playing some old type Jazz music in the background. Young hipster kids having drinks , people talking and such a brilliant place for a chat and a drinks. I went for the classic old fashioned . The host Wes was great . She knew her drinks and was knowledgeable about what the place could offer. Anyway superb service ..oh and don’t forget the secret room. ..oh and a little outside smoke areas this place has it all. What was weird was walking out of this place onto the main stop. Jeez I should have walked back into prohibition. It’s crazy out there. Thank you Chester .will be back again for sure. Great atmosphere, very cool decoration and a good choice of cocktails. Very friendly and helpful staff. A little hard to find, but I guess that’s part of the fun (so I won’t give you any clues). I would definitely return. Price per person: £20–30 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
