We spent one Sunday night at the Red Lion, which we felt overall was long enough. Fantastic central location. We used disabled parking so we were quite close. The staff were friendly. We were greeted at 3.45pm, checked in easily and shown to our room. We were told that the last food orders were at 4.15pm. On entering the room with holdals and shoping bags, it was a bit akward and tight as there was a table outside the door (no purpose other than an a place for the artificial squirting smelly -which there were a few on the landing) and on entering a freestanding clothes rail. A fan was provided as it was very hot. There was tea, coffee, hot chocolate & biscuits in the room plus a selection of items for breakfast left in a basket; porridge pots, breakfast biscuits, orange juice - great idea as there is no hot breakfast available. The room overall was clean and comfortable, however the bathroom needs a good clean and minor maintenance. After 9pm when the pub shuts and on leaving in the morning, you have to use the steep steel stairs out the back, not ideal. We ordered two meals at 4.10pm. We went to sit down in the left hand side of the pub, but the smell of stale urine from the toilets engulfed the whole side - it stank - so we moved the the right side of the pub. Our meal took over 40 minutes to arrive, there was only us at this point waiting for food. We ordered a £30 mixed grill, we looked on in disbelief at the tiny piece of chicken and steak (ordered rare) were cooked till they were dry and burnt along with pretty much everything else on the plate. We sent it back, got a refund and went across the road to another pub (forgotten what it's called) the food was lovely. Service: 2

We visited this restaurant at around 12:40pm and ordered three meals. The restaurant was not busy at all – there was only one other table occupied. Despite this, we had to wait 55 minutes before our food was served. To make matters worse, one of the female waitresses had an extremely poor attitude. She misheard our order but insisted that we had never ordered the item. Instead of apologising for the mistake, she argued with us. She then placed the dishes on the table aggressively, clearly showing her frustration and making us feel very uncomfortable. The food itself was also disappointing. The portions were very small, and the quality was poor, especially considering the price. Overall, the service, attitude and food were all far below expectations. Sadly, this experience seriously affected our impression of Bakewell. We had been looking forward to enjoying lunch while visiting the town, but this restaurant left us with a very disappointing memory. We would not return and cannot recommend this restaurant.

We had a 40 person wedding party spend hours here on a Thursday night and they did not bat an eye. The bartender is amazing and truly made our day special but being accommodating and a good spirit while we asked a lot of him. Thanks so much for dealing with us
