We returned to the Red Lion Coaching Inn in Ellesmere on Friday 7 August after previously staying there in March, and once again it proved exactly why it has become my go‑to place in Shropshire. The welcome was as warm as ever, the staff remembered me, and the whole atmosphere felt familiar, comfortable, and reassuring — exactly what I needed ahead of my knee operation scheduled for Friday 14 August at RJAH The Red Lion has that rare balance of being a proper coaching inn with character while still offering modern comfort and genuine hospitality. My March stay had already set the bar high: clean, well‑kept rooms, excellent food, and a friendly team who take pride in running a good house. Coming back in August confirmed that the consistency is no accident — they simply run a tight ship. I’ve planned to stay again from Thursday 13 to Sunday 16 August, using the Red Lion as a base for a few days of rest and recovery after my operation. It’s exactly the sort of place where you can slow down, take things at your own pace, and feel looked after without fuss. The rooms are comfortable and quiet, the food is reliably good, and the location — right in the centre of Ellesmere — makes it easy to get fresh air, gentle walks, and a change of scenery without overdoing it. The staff deserve particular mention. They’re attentive without being intrusive, and they create the kind of environment where you feel at ease straight away. For anyone needing a peaceful break, a recovery period, or simply a few days away from the noise of everyday life, the Red Lion is an ideal choice. After two visits this year, I can say with confidence that the Red Lion Coaching Inn is consistently welcoming, well‑run, and dependable. I’m genuinely looking forward to my extended stay from the 13th to the 16th — a few days of proper R&R in a place I trust. Price per person: £100+

We have stayed at the Red Lion Coaching inn twice now. We are due to stay next week for 3 nights due to hubby having keyhole knee surgery at Robert Jones Hospital. The rooms are beautiful. Food and hospitality are first class. Staff are very helpful. Would always choose to stay here when we are down this way. Price per person: £30–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
