I popped in to Richard's from the office as I fancied some toast for breakfast. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. You would be quite right to say that it was my own fault for not checking the price first and also my fault for then paying said price. But, never again!! I shall go without toast in future. £5.40 for two slices of granary toast and Marmite. £5.40!!!! I could have bought a jar of marmite, a loaf of bread and a tub of butter for that money. I know that the cost of everything has gone up but that is just ridiculous. Meal type: Breakfast Price per person: £1–10 Food: 2 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3

I have visited this cafe a couple of times with my husband on weekdays, always received a good service. Decided to visit alone on a Saturday for lunch. Sadly the service was a shambles! I asked if I could sit at a table inside and waited 30 mins with no acknowledgment. I then went up and asked if I needed to order at the till and was told no someone will take my order. After waiting 40 minutes a lady asked me what I wanted. I had been watching her chatting to everyone inside and outside the whole time. Even serving people that had arrived after me! Eventually I received my lunch which was very good, as expected. A poor man next to me also dining alone had asked for a sweet after his breakfast and still hadn’t received it when I was leaving. Please don’t ignore single diners we are important too! Food: 5 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 4

In April 2025 after running Brighton 10k I desparately needed to eat, so it was a late breakfast in Hove. We found Richard's Cafe as a great spot to eat and watch the runners in the marathon. Our experience was made all the better by our server Babs who is a wee pocket rocket, sunshine in a bottle. She served us a lovely breakfast that day and we promised we'd be back. So in July 2025 back in Hove this time with our daughter my wife and I headed straight to Richard's. The sun was shining so we sat outside, and we were pleased to see Babs who remembered us. She served us our fantastic full English breakfasts with a wonderful side order of happy talk and hugs. This time we also go to meet Richard who's a lovely person too .... but Babs is still our fave, a treasure. The service isn't the only thing good at Richard's Cafe as the food is too. Very extensive menu and the cakes are yummy too. Richard's is a great place to eat if you are in or around Hove.
