Excellent place. Was a recommendation so thought would be good for a Friday lunch with wife. Very pleasant lad that served us, service polite and a decent speed. Not pushy for a tip, which is the way I think it should be, let the customer decide not “we will happily take it off if requested “ knowing most won’t. So they got a well deserved tip. Highly recommend Price per person: £30–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

A bang average pub, that is unfortunately absolutely filthy. We were seated in an area of the pub that looks like it is used for storage (a load of abandoned chairs, and lots of doors to what looked like storage areas). It was honestly COVERED in dust and cobwebs, gravy stains on chairs, and the stickiest table I’ve ever been seated at. I couldn’t wait to leave. The food was okay, mozzarella sticks were really nice, and the chocolate fudge cake was pretty good too. The main was the most bland food I’ve ever had. Completely plain vegetables (nothing nice on them like garlic butter or seasoning), veggie sausages that were tiny and tasted like cardboard, and mash that was lumpy and utterly boring, again completely unseasoned, and tasted like it had barely any butter, the gravy was like water. My family wanted roasts, and they barely had any meat left, this wasn’t the first time. One of my family members had come to the Rising Sun for a Sunday roast before and they had run out of most of the meats then too. I have also seen a review from someone who had said the same thing. Clearly, they aren’t ordering enough food for their roasts. They both had apple and blackberry crumble, both of them remarked how it might as well just be a blackberry crumble as there was little to no apple in them. Finally, the service was pretty good. They were very friendly, my only criticism was that we would have to call them over to get served. Having said that, it was really busy so I don’t blame them at all, and as I said, they were very friendly. I wouldn’t return to this pub, it was disgustingly dirty, and the food was quite hit and miss. The only saving grace was the staff. If you aren’t really into seasoning and enjoy very basic and bland food, this is the place for you. Food: 2 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 1
