We sat outside as gorgeous weather, looking at all the motorbikes. No table service, ordered at the bar then brought to the table. Lovely pub grub and drinks. Time from ordering food to table service was good. Very friendly staff. Very enjoyable. Price per person: £10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We spent the entire afternoon outside at Rose Cottage with a large group of family and friends. We had a brilliant time and spent a fortune, buying at least 20 drinks over several hours. While our friends stayed at our table, my partner and I went to get fish and chips to soak up the alcohol and feed our son. It had already been a nightmare experience at the chip shop because our neurodivergent son was hungry, overwhelmed, and completely dysregulated after spending hours at the pub table. When we got back, our friends were gone, but my partner’s full pint was still sitting right there on our table. Literally the second I put my food down, a member of staff appeared out of absolutely nowhere and started telling me off about the food. We were a neurodivergent family in a highly stressful situation, just needing five minutes to sit down, let our son eat, and check our phones to understand why our friends had suddenly disappeared. It turns out they had an urgent emergency and had to rush home, leaving us a WhatsApp message. We'd also bought chips for our friend which we ended up taking home for the dogs. Instead of showing an ounce of basic human decency, understanding, realising that we'd been sat there for hours, or any flexibility, the staff barked at me and forced us out, publicly shaming me. They should have realised we'd been sitting there all afternoon. We had to stand on the street with our child, trying to figure out what had happened to our friends while eating our food off a wall and the floor, right next to a table we had funded all afternoon. To treat paying customers—especially a family with a dysregulated child—with such hostility completely ruined what had been a fantastic day. Absolutely disgraceful customer service. Will not be returning.

I don't normally reply to reviews but felt this needed a response.Firstly you chose to sit outside a pub all afternoon with your child on one of the hottest days of the year amid the chaos and noise that is Matlock Bath, no wonder he was overwhelmed, that is on you.Secondly we are a pub with a restaurant with several dining areas, going to another establishment then bringing your food to eat at my tables is just downright rude, ignorant and shows a total lack of respect, would you take a Chinese takeaway into a KFC to eat, I think not, it reeks of self entitlement.Lastly all my staff are polite and friendly ( see all my other reviews) and I don't believe for one minute you were barked at, you are correct about one thing though you will definitely not be returning.

Service and Food was excellent. But I had to double check I wasn’t wearing lipstick as it was on my glass and the wives glass . I’m not slagging the place off this is constructive criticism. Price per person: £20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
