We went to the pub on a bright Saturday, as we wished to spend our time on an ideal afternoon at The Rose in Bloom. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst examples of customer service we’ve experienced in a pub. We ordered a small bowl of chips for £5. When they arrived, they had a very noticeable fish smell and were also extremely oily. My wife is allergic to fish, so naturally this concerned us, especially as we had only ordered chips and had no reason to expect any contact with fish. My wife had to step outside with our baby, so I returned the chips and explained the situation to another member of staff. First she said as far as her knowledge these were not being cooked with the same oil and later she she asked whether we wanted to continue eating them; I said no, and she simply took them away and disappeared. I waited, assuming she would return with the card machine or at least explain what would happen next, but she never did. Later, we spoke to the waitress who had originally served us. When I explained the fish allergy, her immediate response was that we should have informed them of every allergy before ordering. I found this quite unreasonable considering we had ordered plain chips, not fish and chips. What made it even more confusing was that another member of staff had already told us that the chips were not cooked in the same oil as the fish. So which was actually correct? Instead of acknowledging our concern or trying to resolve the situation, the conversation became an argument over a £5 bowl of chips. I eventually said that if they really wanted to dispute a £5 refund, they could keep the money. We were then told to wait because the manager would come and speak to us. We waited for around 10 minutes, but nobody came, so we eventually left. The £5 was never really the issue. It was the dismissive and unnecessarily confrontational attitude. For fairness, I would give the food 2 stars and the atmosphere 4 stars. If Google had a separate category for attitude, unfortunately this experience would deserve 5 out of 5. Couldnt order food for 45 mins then had to wait for it . We were hungry went elsewhere .disappointing . It wasnt that busy

Best view ,nice pub garden ,kid friendly helpful staff , food very disappointing !
