Really dissatisfied about my most recent experience, attached is the first experience in the first image. 2nd onwards image was a different experience, always loved this place. But cannot say I’ll be returning unfortunately. Food: 1 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 2

My partner and I have been coming here for years and have always had amazing service and food, which is why we’ve never minded paying the higher price point. We’ve happily recommended you to others. Unfortunately, our recent visit completely changed that. When we arrived, the seating looked a little different and there were new staff. We ordered drinks first and asked for a few more minutes to choose food. When the drinks arrived, they were dropped off and the staff member walked away without asking if we were ready to order. We then spent 15–20 minutes trying to catch someone’s attention while two staff members stood chatting, without once checking on us. In the end, my partner had to go up to the till to place our order, which felt inappropriate for a restaurant of this standard. We both ordered the pulled pork burger, which is usually our favourite, but this time it was awful. The bun was burnt and completely soaked through with liquid and far too much coleslaw — the bottom bun disintegrated as soon as I picked it up. We waited for someone to check on us but again had to interrupt a staff conversation to get help, by which point the food was already going cold. The burger was taken away and brought back five minutes later with only the top bun replaced — the burnt, soaked bottom bun was still there. For a £20 burger, that’s unacceptable. When we asked for the bill (just for my parents’ food and our drinks, as neither of us ate our meals), the solution offered was to now replace the bottom bun rather than remake the burger. It’s incredibly disappointing. We’ve supported this place for years and would much rather support independent restaurants than chains, but after this experience we won’t be returning. A very disappointing late Valentine’s meal and a real shame considering how good it used to be. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

We had a table for 2 on the 25th September 2025. It was a great atmosphere and good music from the outset. The decor was BBQ American themed and it worked. The staff were lovely and couldn't be more friendly and efficient. It was busy with diners but the staff looked after everyone very efficiently. Our meal was the Pig Pen burger, it was roast pork with crackling on a beef burger, the sauce and combined sweet and hot pickles were perfect and Fries on the side. The meal finished and we chatted to our waitress Sarah Louise and her colleague who on hearing we were on a canal holiday told us the history of the opening of the lock the Smoke & Rye is on. It was so nice to hear this from young people and also from meeting people locally in town the next day. Clearly the Stone community is rightly proud of it's canal and pottery heritage. Recommend a meal here. The town of Stone is well worth a visit as it's vibrant shopping street has much to offer. Thanks for looking after us so well. Best wishes. Bill was £52 for the 2 burgers and 2 pints. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: £20–30 Kid-friendliness: Yes children were eating.
