I am absolutely disgusted by the experience I had with Spicy Basil. I have been a loyal customer for years and have always enjoyed ordering from here, which makes what happened even more shocking and disappointing. I have a severe peanut allergy, so before placing my order I specifically called the restaurant and made it crystal clear that there must be NO peanuts in my food. Despite this, my meal arrived with peanuts in it. This is not a minor mistake—this is an extremely serious food safety issue that could have had life-threatening consequences. What made this experience even worse was what happened when I called the restaurant back. Instead of receiving an apology or any concern for my safety, I was met by an extremely rude male member of staff who shouted at me over the phone, repeatedly insisted that I had “never told him” about my peanut allergy, and refused to take any responsibility. I know exactly what I said because I always make my allergy clear before ordering. Being shouted at, blamed for their mistake, and then having the phone slammed down on me is completely unacceptable. The complete lack of professionalism, accountability, and basic concern for customer safety is appalling. Allergies are not something to argue about or dismiss—they are potentially life-threatening. The way I was treated after raising such a serious issue was just as bad as the mistake itself. I’ve supported this restaurant for years, but after this experience I will never order from Spicy Basil again. The decline in customer service and the standard of employees is incredibly disappointing. No customer should ever have to fear for their safety or be shouted at for reporting a potentially dangerous mistake. If you or someone you order for has a food allergy, I would urge you to think very carefully before ordering from here. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had.
