I can't recommend coming here. Got our order wrong several times with no apology and were still forced mandatory service charge for nonexistent service. Staff were rude and looked miserable. Weren't even greeted when coming in. Food was below average. Some dishes were okay some not so much. Definitely better Japanese cuisine options in Reading. Best to avoid here if possible. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £30–40

TLDR: rude and spoilt fish Me and my husband where having the all you can eat menu. The sushi was lovely- the staff were rude and looked beyond miserable the whole time, except for the owner. I ordered two salmon Teriyaki portions off the hot menu. It tasted off- a foul indescribable smell- with slimy texture. I spat it out. I spoke to the staff and he said that he tasted the second portion off my plate and it tasted fine. My husband had cut his apart and agreed it tasted off so I don't know what the staff tasted but it definitely wasn't what was on my plate. Ruined a perfectly lovely experience and made me and my husband feel sick. Price per person: £50–60

My partner and I went to Sushimania Reading, after having moved here and having a great experience at St. Albans. My word were we wrong, we weren’t even shown to a table, we were just waived to one and then waited for 10 minutes until I had to wave down a waiter to ask for the all you can eat. Food came and was absolutely fine The issue is the service charge and rude manager who has a go at you. The receipt is presented to you with “discretionary service charge” which if we check the definition of discretionary it’s “available for use at the discretion of the user” Asked the waiter to remove it and they tried to keep it on, then the manager came over huffing and puffing about it, saying they had to up prices due to cost of everything, which is fine… up your menu price. They kept shouting and trying to bully me in, at no point did I raise my voice but they made the point to go “this is what we call having an adult discussion” whilst being berated. This has truly, through and through, ruined our experience and we will not ever be retuning. Manager, if you’re reading this, get a grip mate. It’s a service charge that goes to the wait staff, either pay them properly or put up the actual price, don’t make the customers have to pay your issues. Finally, stop being rude. It’s discretionary, doesn’t matter what your paper says, the receipt says discretionary, there for I can remove it. Went on to whine saying “if you don’t want to pay service charge don’t go to restaurant” - no, the point of wait staff is literally to carry my food from the kitchen to my table, what more do they even do? The only difference between Wetherspoons (where there is no service charge) and Sushimania is the fact is you serve sushi. Will be reporting this to HMRC as this all feels a little suspicious.
