Really disappointing experience. Four of us visited for a birthday lunch, but two of our meals were mistakenly given to another table despite us calling over to say they were ours. The other two meals arrived at our table, but nobody came over to explain what had happened or check what we were still waiting for. After waiting, we eventually had to go inside ourselves to ask where our food was. The remaining meals then came out separately and so late that two of us had completely finished eating before the others had even received their food. We were offered a refund because of what happened, but afterwards discovered that only one meal had actually been refunded. I contacted the restaurant to explain the situation and give them the opportunity to resolve it, but unfortunately it still hasn't been resolved. Mistakes happen, but it was the way the situation was handled that was most disappointing. What should have been an enjoyable birthday meal together ended up with half of the group eating at completely different times, and the lack of resolution afterwards has only added to the disappointment.

We had a wonderful stay at the Swinside Inn and felt it deserved a review that reflected our experience. The location is simply outstanding, with breathtaking views that make you feel as though you’re on holiday from the moment you arrive. The air-conditioned room was a welcome bonus during the summer, and we were genuinely blown away by the food. A huge congratulations to the housekeeping team. Our room was absolutely spotless, and it was obvious that the staff take real pride in their work. That level of care doesn’t go unnoticed. The food was simply outstanding. While this isn’t marketed as fine dining, the quality, presentation and flavours were so exceptional that they easily could charge fine dining prices. It was one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time and worth every penny. The service was excellent throughout. Some of the team are younger, but hospitality is changing, and every member of staff we met was friendly, attentive and a credit to the business. Yes, there was some noise outside our room, but it was the height of summer and, if anything, it added to the holiday atmosphere rather than taking away from it. People really need to support places like this. Independent businesses offering this standard of food, cleanliness, service and such an incredible location deserve to thrive. We’d hate to see gems like this disappear. Thank you to everyone at the Swinside Inn for such a memorable stay. We can’t wait to return.
