After trying so many Thai restaurants around Balham recently, Torthai honestly stood out in the best way. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming — cosy interior, lovely lighting, and such friendly service throughout the evening. Even though it seemed like there was only one staff member working that night, he handled everything so professionally and made everyone feel looked after. The food was genuinely excellent. Everything came out fresh, hot, and full of flavour. We ordered a mix of dishes across the table and not a single one disappointed. The corn fritters were crispy and addictive, the tofu garlic & black pepper dish was packed with flavour, and the Panang curry tasted incredibly authentic — probably the closest we’ve had to proper Thai food since visiting Thailand ourselves. The chicken Massaman curry was also rich, comforting, and generously portioned. What I especially loved was the huge range of vegetarian and vegan options, which can be hard to find done this well. The staff were attentive with recommendations, and the whole experience felt relaxed and genuine rather than rushed. And lastly, you absolutely have to try the Pad Thai — it was amazing. With so many Thai restaurants opening nearby, Torthai still manages to stand out. We’ll definitely be back again to try more of the menu!
