What a charming neighborhood spot! Dare I say that it’s kind of a hidden gem? We made the mistake of not having a reservation and trying to randomly find a spot during Happy Hour on a sunny Friday, and we were so happy to have discovered this place on our third attempt (third time really is a charm). On the stretch of establishments and coffee shops right along Kits Beach, this quiet yet quaint restaurant provided us everything we were looking for- a sunny patio, some good cocktails (specifically the margarita), and affordable and yummy tacos (shoutout to the server for making one of the tacos vegetarian for me!) The service can be quite slow because there was only one staff for as far as we could tell, but super friendly and hospitable whenever she came by (and again, accommodating!) We think there was some sort of training happening next door (I have a sneaking suspicion it’s the same owner? That this is a sister restaurant to Charqui? ), as some more servers and bussers popped up towards the end/ right around dinner time at 6:30 PM. Support local! I stopped by TacoLoco after spending the afternoon over at Kits Beach, and it was exactly what I was craving. The vibe inside is super lively, bright, and casual, the perfect for rolling in straight from the beach for a quick bite. I ordered a mix of tacos, and they did not disappoint. The smoked beef brisket barbacoa was incredibly tender and flavourful, especially with the pickled red onions on top. Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

There aren’t enough stars to give an accurate rating for this little gem in the heart of kitsilano. Although we do have some great Mexican restaurants in Vancouver, as far as I’m concerned, Taco Loco makes you feel like you’re in Mexico going to the spots the locals frequent. From the moment you walk in, the staff makes you feel welcome and you honestly don’t want to leave! Their menu doesn’t try to do too many things which means what they do is done sooo well. The Barbacoa beef tacos are mouth watering (my friend also raved about the baby shrimp tacos) and they have literally twice the amount of meat as other Mexican spots. But that isn’t the best part It’s the flavour. It really feels like we’re back in Mexico with Friends who are locals and took us to their favourite spots. Everything we’ve tried has been delicious and every friend who has joined us on one of our visits felt the same way. They also go out of their way to accommodate customers. We were running late, and let us pre-order - when we arrived, the food and drinks were ready and waiting,, and the service was top notch! I honestly believe the team at Taco Loco is passionate about creating an authentic Mexican dining experience and they make you feel that from the minute you walk in. If you haven’t been, make sure to put it on your list of spots to visit. And if you would prefer to hang out at the beach, then order one of their delicious burritos to go!
