I have been visiting the Alexandra pub on Lyndhurst road for many years. I have seen it through many different managers and I can honestly say it is the worst it has ever been. It is never cleaned, the toilets are a health hazard and the pub is filthy. The whole place has a smell not unlike a urinal. The managers child wanders around until late at night and is often behind the bar. The current manager and his wife are gross and standoff ish. I dread to think how the kitchen is by looking at how unclean the rest of the place is. There is a squashed bluebottle fly on one of the windows and it has been there for two weeks.... and counting. Price per person: £20–30 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

We take cleanliness and hygiene extremely seriously, and your comments don’t reflect the standards we work hard to maintain on a daily basis. That said, we will of course review the specific points you’ve raised with the team to ensure nothing has been overlooked. In terms of the wider comments, we appreciate that everyone’s experience is subjective. However, we’re proud that the majority of feedback we receive about both the pub and our team is positive, particularly around the atmosphere and hospitality we provide. Regarding our son, as a family-run pub we believe in teaching a strong work ethic from a young age. He only ever carries out age-appropriate tasks such as collecting and washing glasses, and always under supervision, in line with current guidelines.
