I grew up in the Peak District in the 80s and have been visiting The Barrel on and off for decades and it keeps going from strength to strength. Just completed a weekend stay where our party booked out all of the rooms and everyone had a fantastic time and was very happy with their lodgings. The service was warm, welcoming, gracious and fun. All meals, breakfast and dinner, were fantastic. The setting is stunning. Can't wait to make a return trip, as The Barrel is one of my all time favourite places to visit. Service: 5

The Barrel Inn is wonderfully situated close to many scenic routes. Our suite was large, clean and comfortable with a superb bathroom and very comfy bed too! We felt somewhere to put mugs when using the sofa and a small fridge would have made a huge difference for us. We were out all day and ate in the restaurant the first night. The meal was very good quality, exceptionally well cooked but very small in portion size to what we are used to, that said it might be a sign of the times with the cost of everything maybe? The room had sky lights, so no view which was a disappointment however there was a pub terrace which we made use of. At a cost of £200 per night it isn't unreasonable to expect the room to be relaxing after a long hike, so a downside was a constant drone of an extractor fan and beat of music. We wondered if the pub had live music on but when we went to buy drinks found it wasn't the case so not sure where the music came from. Maybe more sound proofing for the room might resolve it? Breakfast was just as good as the dinner. Good quality products cooked just right, although a breakfast menu would be helpful and we were puzzled by the half a mushroom! Service: 4
