We celebrated a family birthday here and really enjoyed ourselves. The food was delicious and the service was spot on - friendly, welcoming and helpful. (Special thanks go to our Nepalese waiter - so sorry we didn't catch his name.) We highly recommend the Pan Tumaca (tomato on sourdough) and Iberico Presa (pork with mashed potato and peppers) - both were so good we ordered additional portions. The Patata Bravas and Txuleton Steak were also amazing - expensive but worth it! For dessert, the pistachio creme brulee and Basque cheesecake with hazelnut ice-cream were absolute winners and we would go back just for this. we were frequent visitors to this restaurant pre covid and really loved it, last night we took two friends for a meal, we had been raving about the basque kitchen to them for ages, what a disappointment. I cant fault the food it was and still is delicious, but the service, oh dear! It took us 25 minutes to get a menu, in the end we went inside and got it ourselves, the food took 40 minutes to arrive, and at the end when I tried to pay, it was impossible to catch the waiters eye, in the end I took the bill to the counter myself.
Now I know that in these difficult times the hospitality trade has lost a lot of its workers, last night there was only two people serving, who were rushed off their feet, would it not be possible for the owner to maybe step in and help?,perhaps you should not accept so many bookings, when you know you havent got the staff to work.We were so disappointed, especially as we had brought friends with us for a treat, we are reluctant to return, but perhaps once the tourists go home, things will improve?
Incidently we had real problems booking a table, no answer on the phone, and the booking app didnt appear to be working, in the end we had to make a special journey to Cowes to book
