Stumbled across this little gem from a recommendation on motorhome happiness group! Wow! Staff are lovley and couldn't be more helpful and friendly! Was just going to be an overnight stay .... 3 days later we are still here! Ehu available, WiFi is good and the food is outstanding! Definitely worth a visit for the Sunday roast! 5 would highly recommend!! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: £10–20 Parking space: Plenty of parking

The Castlebrook Inn presents itself as a place of hospitality, yet my experience suggested a rather different institution: a test of endurance masquerading as dinner. Service, that most basic covenant between host and guest, was not merely lacking but actively contemptuous. My starter failed to arrive at all, an omission that might have been redeemed by the smallest nod to human fallibility. No such redemption was attempted. The absence was treated not as an error, but as an irrelevance, as though the customer’s expectations were the true impertinence. Matters deteriorated further when the main course arrived, bearing the name “beef madras” with a confidence wholly unsupported by the facts. The dish was not beef at all, but chicken, an unannounced substitution that managed to combine dishonesty with laziness. One might forgive a shortage; one should never forgive the silent rewriting of the menu. If the kitchen has decided that beef and chicken are interchangeable, it has wandered far beyond culinary heresy and into intellectual surrender. As for the madras itself, it resembled less a curry than a punitive experiment in acidity. The dominant, and indeed only, note was vinegar, hurled into the dish with the enthusiasm of someone mistaking aggression for flavour. One can only presume that an entire jar of Patak’s paste had been tipped into the pot wholesale, with no regard for proportion, balance, or the possibility that cooking involves judgment. Heat there was, but depth was absent; spice without structure, fire without thought. What made the evening truly dispiriting was not that mistakes were made, any kitchen can falter, but that there was no apology, no explanation, no interest whatsoever in whether the food was edible, let alone enjoyable. The message was unmistakable: you will eat what you are given, you will not ask questions about it, and you will be grateful for the privilege. An inn survives not on décor or reputation alone, but on the simple moral proposition that guests matter. At The Castlebrook Inn, that proposition appears to have been quietly abandoned. One leaves not merely dissatisfied, but faintly instructed, on the dangers of low expectations, and the folly of assuming that names on a menu bear any relation to what eventually arrives on the plate.
