We called here Saturday afternoon the end of March pre boxing event at the Co-op Live Arena. Landlord & landlady were absolute diamonds, made us welcome, as did the locals, proper good crack & proper pub. We'll definitely be back when next in the area. We had intended to eat here but unfortunately the kitchen was closed that day for renovation. Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Been going in for a few years since oliver had it. Decent sized pub looks better after the refurb compared to the old dated feel interior, it has a great atmosphere and some great people in the pub. I think the staff are professional, always have a smile on their face, polite and up for a good laugh.It can get rammed at weekends but the bar staff work their backsides off serving as quick as they can despite there only being 2 staff working. Landlord can be seen briefly throughout the night collecting the odd one or 2 glasses. Other than that hes mostly seen standing by the door on his phone or outside talking to a customer. Dont get me wrong he seems like a friendly bloke, is very affectionate and relaxed with the staff. There used to be a door man that made sure no idiots or underage kids got in. However hes not there now and you find a lot of shady people coming in and underage drinkers. The late close especially attracts some wrongens.The beer is pretty pricey, however thats probably down to the distributor and not the landlord. Quite a few offers on different types of 'bombs' they have introduced "fire bombs" and "honeybombs". Not a fan of the honeybomb though (bad mix of flavours) The guest ales are fairly decent. Entertainment wise, The church inn has dj lamby on a friday and saturday night. Lambys a decent guy and always cracks a good joke. Been a good couple of Djs here such as jazzy jeff and his son joe. Dj les sometimes works here but is blind drunk by the middle of the night and overplays a few songs. Dj dennis is a nice guy, plays on a sunday however he plays the music too loud and cant really understand what he says over the mic.
