Took a punt on the pub, as I hadn't been for years. I had my family down for the day, including my 15 year old nephew, so I was looking for a range of eats that would suit everyone. In particular, I was interested in their World Cup themed specials, as it had a range of nachos, reflecting different countries i.e. poutine style for Canada etc. He went for Mexican, which unsurprisingly featured chilli, loads of fresh salsa, guacamole etc - it was HUGE. My sister had a gigantic Caesar salad, with massive slices of roast chicken. But definitely for me, the star of the show: the delicious pies! They are homemade, upstairs apparently & absolutely look like they had been lovingly crafted by a expert who enjoys their work. There are a whole range to choose from, with mix & match gravy & mash, with well cooked veg. I went for birria pie (packed with filling & flavoursome), along with bone marrow & cheddar mash, with lashings of Harvey's Ale & onion gravy (in a jug). For the excellent quality (you can see it in the pictures), quantity & great taste, I was very happy to pay £17 for my meal (£22 including a pint of cider). My sister said their food (3 dishes & 3 drinks) was great & excellent value (£56), so we were all very happy with our meals. The woman who served us was lovely & super efficient. Plus they've got a really cute little garden which worked well for us & the dog. Considering it's under fairy new management, they certainly seem to have got their act together. I'd highly recommend & will be back, possibly for Sunday lunch. Price per person: £10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Vegetarian offerings: Not sure

We’ve just returned from The Constant Service after going there for lunch on recommendation. The food is amazing and all home-made on the premises. Aside from a Specials Board (all looking very tasty), there is the Pie Board. From here you can choose a pie from a list, mash from a selection of flavours (or chunky chips if you must) and even a gravy of choice! Vegan and vegetarian choices in each list available too and all come with a portion of seasonal, garlic greens. I had Spiced Root Vegetable pie, cheese and leek mash with roasted vegetable gravy. My husband had Steak, Ale and Mushroom pie with chunky chips and beef & red wine gravy. Both meals were extremely tasty! Which then forced us to see if the puddings were just as nice as they’re made by the same chef - Chocolate Brownie with caramel and chocolate gelato plus Sticky Banoffee pudding with chai, banana and caramel gelato. Absolutely top-notch top nosh! Pub is very relaxed (dogs welcome too) with friendly staff and retro vinyl tracks playing in the background. Great selection of local and national beers. The pub, under new management, deserves to go from strength to strength. Highly recommendable!
