We booked a " pre-booked" weekend at The George. We stay all over the world and have in depth experience of hotels. The George clearly believes it is a " luxury" hotel, which it is not. The common parts of which there are many are basic, simply furnished with little or no personality at all. The rooms as you would expect in an old building tend to be up wiggly staircases and again are either noisy ( no soft closing on any doors) or you hear the weddings etc that they take on. Most importantly it is the incredibly banal, basic sad offering of breakfast, invariably served by teenagers who have had little or no training in customer service; not a smile or one iota of anything personal or warm that resembles service. The food ( breakfast) is equally poor. All pre made and re heated with absolutely no care or love whatsoever ( Ive had better in a " greasy spoon") Clearly accountants have got hold of the running of this hotel " up the cost per room, reduce everything we can to save money ") and it really shows. One paper on the front desk on a Sunday morning ? All i can advise is that this hotel is worth a fraction of the price and it trades on the fact that it looks great from the outside and it is centrally based in beautiful Rye. I can't emphasise enough how noone appears to have been trained how to handle customers; sat in an alcove I was lsitening to a guest wanting 100% refund on his room as the previous evenings wedding was so rowdy they had no sleep. The receptionist siad " here is my managers card you can give him a call ....." and there you have it; The George has no managment on site, no one clearly in charge and clearly identifiable by ther guests . This morning whilst we have breakfast theres a man in a white guest talking loudly with staff as if he works here, a total disturbance to our peaceful breakfast, just noisy banal chatter, an hour later he is at the bar in same white vest drinking Guniness still talking with staff, everyone unaware that all around people are paying 200, 300, 400 pounds per night. This is the George, ladies and gentleman and I'd either retrain their staff and junior management in a day ( but they'd never aceept there was a problem )or never set foot in the place again. Im Sorry George but your game needs to be well and truly "upped" Service: 1

Fabulous! Just fabulous! A must if you want to enjoy a gorgeous boutique hotel rich with historic beautiful rooms, bedding, pillows, food and decor. And of course the essential fabulous staff and service. Plus the area is rich in history and coastal walks. A treat!

Where do we even begin with The George in Rye. Over the past 18 months, it truly became our home away from home as we planned our wedding. Every single member of the team made a lasting impression, from Brendan and Madison at the front desk, to Harry, Abby, and Will in the bar, and George in the restaurant. The level of warmth and care across the entire hotel is something special. If you’re even considering hosting your wedding here, don’t hesitate, this is the team and the place to make it unforgettable. From helping us plan our engagement celebrations through to brunch the day after the wedding, Anna was simply exceptional. She brought a sense of calm and reassurance to what can often be a stressful process. On the day itself, Elton ensured everything ran seamlessly, managing every detail from setup to teardown with total professionalism. And we would be remiss not to mention Felicity, who became our go-to for absolutely everything over the weekend, nothing was ever too much to ask. We already can’t wait to return to what now feels like our second home this summer.
