As first time visitors, we walked from Pokesdown station to the beach and then along the promenade, becoming increasingly baffled that there are NO places along that whole stretch where you can just buy a beer. We had just resigned ourselves to having to climb back up the cliff to go to one of the pubs, when we saw this place. It’s a full service restaurant plus a little takeaway bar & pizza with casual tables to sit at right on the beach (“beach garden”, if you will, as opposed to “beer garden”). We bought a beer to sit at their beach tables, but then decided to have lunch as well. The restaurant was busy but the host gave us the choice of sitting outside or inside; in the sun or in the shade (there would be a short wait for in the shade but the tables were moving steadily). Our server was attentive, friendly and professional, as were any others we had cause to interact with over the course of our meal. The food isn’t exactly cheap but the choices are excellent with something for every palate. We both had woodfired pizzas which were great, and cheesy chips which we felt were probably overpriced for the portion size and amount of cheese but every dish I saw coming past our table or around us looked well presented and a good size, I don’t think you can really go wrong with anything here. There is a full drinks list, and we paid just under £60 for the two of us including service. The toilets were not great, but to be honest all the toilets I visited over the course of my day trip were vile, so they were the best of a very bad bunch. It must be hard keeping toilets clean on a beach but I do think it’s worth investing some money into the provision of better toilets. I can’t believe this place wasn’t even listed on Googlemaps! I highly recommend you work a visit into your beach day! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
