We had dinner at the Reef and were not impressed. The burger bun was dry, the fries over salted and the salad seasoning was not very balanced and overly sweet. Service: 3

Where to start? The Reef was a recommendation from one of the staff at the Premier Inn (not sure if it was Leanne, Dawn or Imogen - sorry ladies!). I took a leisurely stroll down the seafront enjoying the breeze and the sea. From the esplanade The Reef looks inviting and welcoming. It appeared to be quite busy, so I was happy to sit outside (my only gripe - as I found the seats outside quite uncomfortable). Emma - an absolute diamond - then told me they had a table inside so that ended well! I ordered the steak and fries, with garlic butter and treated myself to a Mermaid gin cocktail! The food was divine! I really did not need the steak knife - the steak was rare as requested, tender and perfectly seasoned, the fries excellent, mushroom perfectly grilled, vine tomatoes perfect and juicy. But ... that Garlic Butter - clearly homemade and possibly the best garlic butter I have ever tasted anywhere. There was a crunch to the garlic that was perfect and zingy. I could have licked that little ramekin clean. It was a heavenly addition to the steak! Just wow! My cocktail was delish, as only Mermaid gin cocktails are. The price reasonable, the ambiance restful and calm. Something very special about eating your favourite food, excellently prepared, whilst watching the sea. Pretty much paradise! On top of that, you have Emma and Josh. Emma is a truly delightful host and Josh has clearly learnt his craft from her extremely well. Nothing was too much trouble and both were delightfully attentive without being intrusive. I would highly recommend The Reef if you are planning to visit the Island. And for all those who are GF - they have got you covered and then some!! Service: 5
