We went for my partners 26th birthday and experience was brilliant from start to finish. We were greeted and seated as soon as we arrived, cocktail and wine menus were extensive with staff showing great knowledge and attentiveness. Starters and mains were fantastic and everyone went the extra mile for the occasion with the dessert. Brilliant experience. Will definitely be back Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

As a returning customer, I visited Thomas for an anniversary dinner to see how the recent rebrand and new menu structure compared to the original experience. The Positives:. The "software" of the restaurant remains exceptional. The kitchen is still delivering high-precision cooking (the Beef Wellington and Scallops were flawless), and the service team remains attentive and professional. The culinary standard has not dropped. The Negatives:. However, the "hardware", specifically the atmosphere and environmental control has suffered a significant downgrade. The pivot to a volume-driven model (via the daily offers) has fundamentally altered the acoustic and social profile of the venue. 1. Auditory Environment: The shift from background classical music to loud, beat-heavy modern tracks is jarring. It encourages higher volume conversation, contributing to a chaotic, "wet market" noise floor. 2. Acoustics & Etiquette: The environment no longer facilitates dining etiquette. The noise levels mask sensory feedback, resulting in a room filled with clattering cutlery and thumping tables. It creates a high-sensory-friction environment that makes it difficult to actually enjoy the high-quality food. Thomas used to be my "safe" recommendation for a refined dining experience in Cardiff. While the food is still worth the price, the environment no longer matches the plate. It feels like a high-end kitchen operating inside a noisy high-street canteen. I hope the management can find a way to balance their new cash flow model without alienating the supporters who came for the original atmosphere.
