Friends brought us to have lunch at this truly delightful pub. A super friendly welcome from the minute we arrived. Some of the best food we have tasted in a long while. Especially the squid, pork belly and the Hake. A splendid menu selection. Friendly and attentive service all round. Dog friendly as well. Will certainly be back . Pity we live in Newbury. Price per person: £40–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We were warmly welcomed by Julian and Emma. We sat in the Snug with our terrier who was welcomed with a doggie treat too. The Sunday roasts were excellent. I asked for a smaller plate and was offered the child’s portion which was very welcome. It had all the various components of the normal roast but left room for a pudding ! The meat was succulent and cooked to perfection accompanied by a delicious cauliflower cheese, cabbages, red and green, and stunning roast potatoes. I’d definitely recommend this gorgeous old school pub for a fabulous local pint or a full blown 3 course meal. Staff are all tip top. We had a nice nice evening here tonight, it was a slightly random choice based on "nice pubs within 30 minutes of Kingswood". We had food which was really nice (the Upton burger and the fish and chips). Portion sozes were good, the food arrived in good time and was well presented. The team were really friendly and helpful and made our visit that little bit better, kinda felt like we were being treated like "regulars" even though it was our first visit. Later in the evening there was also a well organised and run pub quiz which we took part in, this was good fun and was unexpected, although I think it runs regularly. Total cost was approximate £58 for meals, two alcoholic drinks, and 4 soft drinks. Would highly recommend, and will visit again. Price per person: £50–60
