We popped in at lunchtime for a bite to eat. The food took an age to arrive then it was cold. We sent it back only for it to be warmed up in a microwave. My partners was inedible. Not the best. However the Guinness was good Service: 3

Lil's on the Waterfront offers a genuinely pleasant and convenient stay in York, particularly suited for those wanting character and a prime location. My recent experience was overwhelmingly positive, marked by a spotlessly clean room, a crucial factor always appreciated. The staff throughout the hotel were uniformly friendly, helpful, and created a welcoming atmosphere, making check-in and any queries effortless. The standout feature is undoubtedly the location and the in-house pub restaurant downstairs. Sitting with a drink or meal overlooking the canal provides quintessential York charm and lovely views, especially appealing after a day exploring the city. Knowing this relaxed, scenic spot was right beneath my room, which added significant value and convenience to the stay. The overall vibe is comfortable and well maintained. I absolutely plan to return, which speaks volumes. However, a significant practical drawback exists for early risers or those with morning commitments: breakfast service starts at 10 am. This proved far too late for me, clashing directly with a 9 am. meeting and meaning I missed out entirely. While hotel guests do receive a welcome 25% discount on breakfast when they can attend, this concession doesn't solve the core issue of the service time. For business travellers or anyone needing an early start, this schedule is a genuine inconvenience. Lil's delivers a clean, friendly, and charming stay in a fantastic waterside location with a lovely pub. The staff are a real asset. Just be acutely aware that if a traditional hotel breakfast is part of your plan, especially before 10 a.m., you'll need to look elsewhere or adjust your schedule. Despite this notable flaw concerning breakfast timing, the overall quality and location mean I will be back, albeit planning my mornings more carefully next time. Recommended, with the breakfast timing caveat firmly in mind. Service: 4
