We had a lovely experience in Whittington’s Tea Barge. The vibe there was so peaceful and relaxing. The staff were very friendly. The afternoon tea set and the all day breakfast were fantastic. The pistachios cake was so delicious. Whittington’s Tea Barge is highly recommended. I would definitely visit Whittington’s Tea Barge again when I visit Reading next time.

This is a million star review, in essence. 5 stars doesn't even come close. What a lovely experience we had onboard the Whittington Tea Barge when we visited earlier today (Sat March 16th, 2024). We were shown to our seats. The people who greeted us were warm, friendly, and attentive without ever being intrusive. Their smile and manner were genuine. I took my mum out for a cream tea and it didn't disappoint. She had a pot of English breakfast tea made with loose leaves in a huge floral teapot, which she loved. I had a similarly sized decaf cappuccino. We opted for the cheese and pickle sandwiches, and these were soft and generously filled. We had massive fruit scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream. To top that off, we finished with delicious good-sized portions of quality cake - carrot cake for myself and lemon cake for my mum. The atmosphere inside the barge was lovely. The seating was comfortable, and surprisingly, the interior was spacious yet retained its cosiness. There were two more members of staff working in the kitchen, who cooked and lovingly prepared each order. The kitchen was tidy and scrupulously clean. When we had paid, the woman who initially greeted us sat with us and chatted, and the conversation flowed effortlessly. It felt like we were treasured guests, spending the afternoon with a friend. Amazing service. As if this wasn't enough, we also had swans and geese swimming right beside the window. Who could ask for more? We loved our visit to Whittington's Tea Barge so much that we have already booked our next visit. I came along to this delightful barge with a group of ladies from my social group.
From the minute we boarded, Chung & the team couldn’t do enough for us.
Lovely afternoon tea served with a smile, such an unusual experience being on the barge.
Would recommend it to all.
