As one of the athletes competing at Die Finals 2026 in Hannover, I am genuinely shocked by what was served to us. Athletes paid an additional €10 for what was advertised as a lunch package during one of Germany’s premier sporting events. Instead, we were served undercooked rice, watery tomato sauce, poorly prepared vegetables, and a meal that showed little care or understanding of basic sports nutrition. The situation became even worse because athletes, hardworking officials, commentators, security personnel, volunteers, and other event staff had to leave the venue, walk approximately 10 minutes to collect the food, stand in a very long line, and then rush back to their responsibilities. By the time some people reached the serving line, there was nothing left except plain rice, despite everyone paying the same price. Several athletes experienced stomach problems after eating. While I cannot say with certainty that the meal was the cause, the quality of what was served raised serious concerns. This was not just disappointing—it was embarrassing for a restaurant serving competitors and event personnel at a nationally televised championship. The most disappointing part is the apparent lack of accountability. A sincere apology to everyone who paid for this meal would be the very least that should be offered. Please understand that this review represents only one account. Multiple attendees have documented their experiences with photographs and intend to submit formal complaints to the organizations responsible for the event and its catering. We will be requesting that this situation be investigated and that those who paid for this lunch package be reimbursed for a meal that clearly failed to provide the quality or value promised. I sincerely hope management reflects on the standard that was delivered and takes responsibility. Everyone working and competing at an event of this caliber deserved far better.
