My family and a bunch of my friends attended a children’s birthday party here and were told there was free parking. We parked where the cafe owner told us to park and then received a parking fine. Every family member and friend who attended the party received a parking fine just because we listened to the cafe owner who specifically told us there was free parking. The cafe owner is so rude and basically denied they told us there was free parking. Turns out it was a private car park belonging to the building next door so the cafe had no authority to tell us to park there in the first place! Just a horrible experience and would not recommend to anyone thinking of hiring this venue.

I attended a children’s birthday party here and got a parking ticket, even though we parked where the cafe owner told us to park. The parking situation is awful and we found out afterwards that the only free parking spaces are at the front of the building, but at the weekends the main door to the building is not open so you have to walk all the way around the building under a damp and dirty bridge/alleyway and then continue in the dark with no lighting until you reach the small back door to the cafe, go up some dirty stairs before you are in the cafe’s kitchen. It’s a distance from where you can park and definitely not safe to walk on your own in that part of Coventry. To top it off, the cafe owner is so rude and had the worst attitude when we brought these parking tickets to her attention, and then we found out from speaking to the parking fine company that the cafe had no right to tell people where they could park, as it’s a private car park belonging to the building next door! Just an awful experience all around and would not recommend to anyone thinking of hiring this venue.

I wish I had never booked my daughter’s birthday party at Cafe 101, and that I had picked one of the many other venues in Coventry instead. The owner had specifically advertised it as free parking and had specifically told us to come to the back and park in the back. When we got there, there were signs up which had said that permits were required for parking, we had questioned this with the cafe owner as sometimes parking is only permitted for people using the facilities. We were told by the cafe owner to park there, and she had stated “the signs have only just gone up”, at no point did she state to any of us (5 people who arrived first) that we probably should not park there just in case. My husband received the attached message from the cafe owner at 15:30, bearing in mind that she knew the party started at 15:00 and 5 of us had been there from 13:00 to set up so even if we had moved, we would have all got tickets anyway. It is also not clear what she means by “cameras”? Surveillance cameras? There are also only a few parking spaces in the “middle” and she knew it was a party of 40 so there would not have been enough parking spaces in the middle. There are also parking restrictions and signs in the “middle” section, none of which say that it is reserved for cafe use but for other businesses instead. When raised with the owner, you’ll see the kind of “assistance” we received. I messaged her myself after she sent a message to my husband saying that there’s nothing further they can do and we need to raise it with the parking fine company. We also received a message from the cafe saying that no immediate action is required but again, upon checking with Ballicom (who issued the tickets), they had no authority to be telling people to delay paying the parking tickets. When we spoke to Ballicom, they also said that the building that the cafe is in was notified that the cameras had gone live in November, so it is just not good enough for the cafe owner to say she didn’t know. There was also an event the weekend before ours and they also all received parking tickets, so Ballicom is of the view that the cafe has had more than amble chance to warn us. I would advise everyone not to rely on where the cafe owner says you can park in the back, as the building that they are in do not own any of the land to the back, and any representation made about where you can park is based on Ballicom or other tenant occupiers not previously enforcing the parking but they can do so at any time, and there will be nothing that Ballicom or the cafe can do to get them cancelled.
