Long story short: if you've travelled a bit, this is not a 4-star hotel. The lobby and gaming-style decor are fun, and clear effort went into the design — but the rooms are a different story. The brutal truth hits as soon as you step out of the lift: a strong smell of dust that tells you everything about how the place is maintained and cleaned. Same in the room: stains on the carpets, the curtains are dirty and smell like unwashed laundry. Half the rooms face the motorway, and the soundproofing is... non-existent. I asked to change for a room on the other side, my colleague didn't and was disturbed by the noise all night long. The cleaning clearly isn't done properly once you look at the details (more and more limescale the lower you look in the shower). And I booked the "Plus" room. Same thing about the breakfast which is definitely not a 4-star: the product selection is OK, quality is average. Bottom line: a place that invests in marketing and appearances more than in maintenance and cleaning.

Really lovely hotel, great location for where we needed to be, but the staff let the place down. When we arrived and were asked about breakfast, we couldn’t get a clear answer on vegan options available. We then later discovered there was lots available for dairy free/vegan after the rest of our party had gone to breakfast the next morning. Had we known this, we would have booked breakfast. We also spent the whole first night with no air con, reported this to front desk in the morning, where we were told someone would look at it and if it couldn’t be fixed we would be able to move rooms. We had made them aware we would be out all day. When we got back, the new staff on the desk had no idea what we were talking about. When we got up to our room, quite a few of our key cards wouldn’t work (we were a party of 24) and when I went down to ask for help, I was made to feel like I was in the wrong and was asked by the person at the desk if I was “actually holding the card up to the door”. The air cooling system then still did not work when we got into our room and we were then told we couldn’t move. We explained the conversation we had this morning with another member of staff, which it seemed he did not want to believe. The gentleman also kept leaving us at the desk to have other conversations with colleagues, but we managed to move rooms at midnight. When I asked for help moving our stuff, I was told no. Over all, I had a lovely stay, but I feel the service let them down. Service: 2

I had a really lovely stay at pentahotel Reading. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and stylishly designed — perfect both for relaxing and for getting some work done. Everything felt clean, calm, and well thought out. One thing I truly appreciated was how pet-friendly the hotel is. Traveling with my dog felt easy and genuinely welcome, which is something I value a lot when choosing where to stay. The gym facilities were also a great plus — well equipped and ideal for keeping up with a routine while traveling. What really stands out is the service: friendly, professional, and warm from start to finish. The team made the stay feel effortless and comfortable. The location is excellent as well, with convenient access to town and transport links, while still feeling peaceful inside.
