Had a great experience at Bangrak in Whitby! We loved the location and atmosphere of the restaurant. The staff were friendly and kind, making us feel very welcome. We started with the crispy wontons, which were a huge hit with our toddler. For mains, we ordered the chicken pad Thai and beef pad see ew. Both dishes were flavorful and delicious, but the beef pad see ew was definitely my favourite. We’ll definitely be back! This is my go-to spot for Thai food in Durham as I've been going here for a few years. After a recent trip to Thailand this place is very close to the flavor profile that they have over there (of course not as spicy!). Every time I come here, I leave full and happy. The portions are generous and the price is reasonable. The menu is streamlined to 2 pages but has enough variety for multiple visits. The restaurant recently updated their menu, with things like Tom Yum Fried Rice and lots of other yummy dishes. If you're looking for delicious Thai food, this is the place to go to. We had high hopes here based on other reviews but were rather disappointed. The food was quite bland, and not a lot of usual Thai ingredients. There was no Thai Basil nor any fresh cilantro, very limited vegetables or variety in our meals. I had Pad Thai and my wife had a ckn/ pepper dish. It was supposed to be spicy but was not. My dish had a very fish sauce aroma to it, I like fish sauce, use it at home, but it shouldn’t be the dominant aroma or flavour of Pad Thai. The ingredients we did have were very fresh just wish there was more with more flavour. The ambience was unassuming and quaint and was fine for a small restaurant, but but the place was freezing, we had to eat with our coats on, I noticed that the back door behind the kitchen was ajar and it was a cold night, I get it would be nice for the kitchen staff to keep cool, but not if it freezes the patrons. Price was expensive for what we received. Other notes: No alcohol, very limited dessert options. Price per person: $30–40 Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 2
