My husband and I dined at Bybrook as we had a voucher gifted to us. We called to ask if we could have the voucher extended by two months (and we would book our date there and then over the phone) as we have a newborn who is exclusively breastfed and also premature. We explained that we couldn’t have dined with them prior as I had a complicated pregnancy and spent two months in the NICU. They told us we cannot extend the voucher and the only alternative was to use the voucher for a stay with them (still without an extension). Rooms are a fair bit more than the voucher was worth and the restaurant is not child friendly so we did not want to stay in the hotel when we would have to fork out more money and not be able to eat there as we’d have our baby with us. In the end we had to pay for our baby’s grandparents to come and stay overnight with us nearby so they could look after our baby while we dined. The meal itself was good. Not great or exceptional but good. Considering the cost of the meal we would have expected all the courses to blow us away. We have eaten at other Michelin Star restaurants and had other taster menus before and have been left wanting more and wanting to return. This is not a restaurant that we would go back to. We had six courses and only two of them did we feel we would have wanted bigger portions of. The beef was very chewy and not flavourful. It was a very thin, single slice so you’d expect it to be the best slice of beef that would melt in your mouth. Most of the courses lacked flavour. The chocolate dessert was delicious, as was the bread to start. Overall, nothing spectacular and, to us, not worth paying over £300 for the food, not including any drinks. Plus a 13.5% service charge. On top of all that, towards the end of the meal two children came into the dining room (wearing just t-shirts and diapers) and the staff let the children enter the restaurant to go be with their parents. The children didn’t bother my husband and me as we are parents ourselves. However, it did make us feel frustrated that we weren’t allowed to bring our newborn, and had to go through the effort and expense of bringing my parents to stay a night at a nearby hotel, just to see children allowed into the restaurant while we ate. In summary, the business should review their family policy and be more lenient in their rules when there are extenuating circumstances. I understand why the restaurant is child free, and have no problem with that, but allowing for an extension for a voucher to be used under exceptional circumstances would surely not cause the business too many issues. We made it work in the end but were hoping that for all the stress it would be a top 5 meal we had ever had and, unfortunately, it was not close. We’ve eaten in a lot of Michelin starred restaurants and this one has the best views of any of them. I absolutely loved the restaurant setting and the room is also amazing. The food is beautifully presented and it dances on your palate. For both of us the lobster was our favourite, followed very closely by the trout. Bread was fantastic too. Really loved this place and totally recommend it. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Dinner

As a guest staying at the Manor, the atmosphere of the restaurant was even more so disappointing. It’s the exact same room that breakfast is served in everyday and there was no attempt to even dress it up to convert it to such a dinner setting. Bare wooden tables with no linen. Full sized cutlery only with no proper distinction for the food being brought out. The waitstaff came across as amateur, frequently fumbling over menu descriptions and laughing through explanations in a way that felt unprofessional. No thorough cleaning of the table between courses. The courses- absolutely laughable in portion sizes. Even for a toddler. 1 cherry tomato for the first course. Could not help be feel like this might be a prank. A couple table spoons of lobster for the second. 3 pieces of beef to finish for the real food portion beside the dessert at the end. How is this okay? No amount of artful plating/ preparation or flavor (which there was nothing to write home about anyway) could justify such ridiculous portions. If it wasn’t for the bread served in-between, I’m not sure this could have even slightly satisfied any grown adult. The wait between each course for such portions of an already a set menu was also long. As frequent fine dining visitors, this was actually the worst sorry to say.
