Stopped for a look at the artisan market , only a few stalls but picked up some delicious crumbly Lancashire cheese. Decided to have a coffee in the Cookhouse, friendly service and none of that disdain you can sometimes get when you're ordering a coffee. I had a decaffeinated americano and it was very nice, no bitter aftertaste. You also get a little biscuit with it. The diners around me were having lunch and the smell was making me feel hungry. Standard pub menu but as it was an early lunch I went with the fish finger butty. This comes on bloomer bread with lettuce and tartar sauce. The meal also comes with nachos and a side salad, I went for the skin on fries instead for an extra £2. Not too long a wait and the food arrived. Nicely presented especially the fries in an enamel cup! The butty was nice and fresh , fish fingers were the right side of crunchy and the tartar sauce didn't overpower everything as it can do. The fries were nice and hot, cooked perfectly and a delicious seasoning. Really enjoyed my lunch and I'll be back to try the fish and chips next time . Meal type: Lunch Price per person: £10–20

I’ve had nothing but problems when I come to the cookhouse pub and carvery! I attended this restaurant today for the last time. After waiting 1 hour 30 minutes for my food my burger come out burnt therefore i explained this to them to which they apologised, 15 minutes later (around 2 hours from the time I originally ordered my food) they brought me out another burger to which the bacon was replaced with gammon from the carvery. When I questioned this I was greeted with a rude response from the waitress and was told to just “eat it or take the gammon off”. I explained that I ordered bacon on my burger not gammon which I was not expecting then the waitress spoke to me with poor manner which ended with her walking off taking both mine and my partners food. The manager did attempt to resolve this and did apologise but apologised repeatedly interrupting myself and the waitress continued to speak in poor manners about myself to my partner. Very unprofessional and such a poor experience to have on a day that should have been celebrated. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £20–30 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 4
