I have visited The Red Lion in Chesham twice in the last few months, and on both occasions, the owner-Olly, was unprofessional and disrespectful. During my first visit, he aggressively confronted my Asian friends about playing pool, falsely accusing us of not purchasing drinks when we clearly had. Even worse, on our most recent visit, he refused to let a friend’s spouse use the restroom unless they purchased a drink immediately, despite our group having just arrived and others already queuing at the bar. This hostility ruined our experience. Given the many welcoming pubs in Chesham with far better service, I strongly recommend avoiding this pub. Price per person: £40–50 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3

The owner of the pub, Oliver is an extremely rude chap. This is based on my two experiences of going there with a group friends in the last 4 months. We like playing pool in the pub. After a round of drinks in the The General Arms, we came to the red lion and went to check if the tables were available. He comes up and says - you can't just play here unless you buy drinks. Really??? Who talks like that to customers. That time we just ignored him. And then this incident happened a few weeks ago. This time there was a bigger group of 10 including both men and women. We had come over there from trekkers and were thinking on what to order. One of my friend was visiting from out of town. His wife wanted to use the washroom and asked him on where the washrooms were. He tells her: the bathrooms are not free to use here. You got to buy your drinks first. It completely spoilt our mood. We wanted to leave immediately, but decided to stay and bought two rounds of drinks just to prove a point. But swore never to come back to this place. There is no dearth of good pubs in Chesham. Going to this pub, you run the risk of spoiling your evening. Price per person: £10–20 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

As local residents of Chesham, we do visit red lion pub quite often as one of our prominent local pubs. Disappointed by an experience at the Red Lion pub in Chesham on the evening of 15th May. A group of Asian British families visiting the pub felt unfairly singled out when some of the ladies in the group were reportedly told by the owner, that they could only use the toilet facilities after purchasing drinks and that the restrooms are not free. We were a big group of friends visiting the pub this evening and the group was waiting behind some customers already ordering at the counter, when this gentleman came up with his rude comments, and we must reiterate that this is not the first time this has occurred in this institution in recent times. While businesses are entitled to manage their premises and facilities, it is important that all customers and visitors are treated with fairness, dignity, and consistency, regardless of background or ethnicity. Experiences like this can leave families feeling unwelcome and excluded. We hope the management reflects on the situation and takes steps to ensure that everyone visiting the pub is treated respectfully and equally in future. We must also reiterate that all other staff of this pub are highly cordial and respectful towards customers as you would expect in any such institution Price per person: £1–10 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 4
