. The Oldest Inn in Ruthin is also the Newest Bistro in town! The Star Inn, aka The Star Bistro is on Clwyd St, just up from Cae Ddol, and opposite Ruthin Gaol. Serving townspeople and visitors since 1491, it has plenty of Olde Worlde Charme inside (and some utterly charming staff too) with an impressive supply of drinks to quench your thirst. The Bistro bit comes from the cute dining room with its really good menus and lovely service. And in summer at least they are cooking and serving food all week, unlike some other local eateries who close some days. On Sundays there's the Sunday Roast, I understand that they started that back in 1491 with the Roast Ox (but no roast potatoes then, Columbus hadn't brought them back from America yet) which is well worth booking for all the family. You'll love it! Come on, come on, y'all know that it was in 1492 that Columbus sailed the ocean blue, and brought potatoes, tobacco and sweet corn from the New World back to Europe. So no roasties when they opened The Star. My lunch of pâté with salad and coleslaw was very generous, and very delicious. I shall be back again to try some more from the menu. And if you take the kids to Cae Ddol one sunny evening, take them to the Star, plonk them down by the tables outside, and have a selection of things to share. Including a dish of ice cream. Many thanks to all at the Star. .
