We love a ‘locals’ pub, so after reading other reviews, we decided to pay The Castle Inn a visit whilst staying overnight in Cannock. As we walked through the front door into a small crowded bar room, a local pointed at us and told us to go round the other way. The four of us went back outside, but after walking around the entire pub we couldn’t find another unlocked door. Thinking there must be some mistake, we re-entered through the front door to try again. This time, I persevered and managed to reach the bar, where the barmaid said we needed to ‘go round’ if we wanted serving and directed us to a door marked toilet! No smile, no welcome, no explanation or apology! Sadly things didn’t get any better . we came face to face with a group of blokes blocking our way, and who obviously had no intention of moving to let us through. It was 9 o’clock on a Saturday night, and maybe everyone was a bit worse for wear, but in all my years of seeking out interesting pubs I’ve never experienced anything like this before. There is really no excuse to be that rude. I’d advise avoiding this pub at all costs. Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
