Restaurant booked well in advance for a special occasion. Food arrived 45 minutes after arrival despite the restaurant being very quiet (only one other table occupied). Food well cooked but the meat portion less than what l would expect, especially for the price of the meal. Very expensive for pub style cuisine. The place lacked any atmosphere. On paying the bill, l mentioned the slow service only to be told that they were busy?? I also mentioned the ridiculously small meat portion (l estimate to be no more than 4oz), which l was told would be passed onto the chef. Doubt l will be going back. Price per person: £30–40 Food: 3 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 1

I was looking for a restaurant about halfway between Kent, where I was visiting from Spain, and Wales, where my son and SIL lived. I was looking for somewhere with good reviews and a varied menu. I booked many weeks in advance and received a couple of emails from the Castle Inn reminding me of my booking and asking me to reconfirm we would be attending. On the day, we sat outside catching up and looking forward to ordering the choices we had made from the online menu. We were extremely surprised to be told that because the Inn was hosting an event, the only items on the menu were pizza and burgers. After a quick chat we decided to stay as were were not sure where else to go, not knowing the area, and it was getting late for lunch. The quality of the food we received was excellent, but we were very dissapointed that we had not been told about what was obviously a pre-planned event and given the opportunity to book somewhere else.
