Love meals at The Ambrette! As a regular visitor to Rye for some decades, I'd always passed it and even read the menu but never quite popped in. Have now been twice in a matter of months because I find the dishes delicious, the staff charming, and the decor and ambience very much to my liking, especially with the 14th-century monastery in the background. I can understand the menu and reception area not being to everyone's liking (which could be said about any restaurant) but I didn't find it a hardship to research the food on their website or ring a bell for attention. It's a shame this establishment doesn't market itself better (including in their own window – it's a shame not to be able to see all the way through the restaurant) because it does everything else so well.

Visited this treasure one Sunday lunchtime. We were warmly welcomed and shown to a comfortable table.We didn’t feel we had the capacity for the delicious-looking roasts, but the choices were varied, ranging between Indian street food, burgers and wraps. We opted for the burgers and wraps and they were absolutely delicious. I had the pulled pork (heavenly), another chose the tandoori chicken fillet burger and one had the chicken wrap. They were all served with scrumptious onion rings, beautifully cooked wedges and yummy coleslaw with a spicy twist. Drinks orders were taken quickly and served promptly.In summary:The space was light and the atmosphere relaxed. The staff were warm, attentive and very helpful. Cost very reasonably and the food superb!We were extremely happy with our visit to The Ambrette Kitchen and will definitely visit again.
