A really wonderful meal. Each course was exquisite, full of flavour and wonderful produce. I can't recommend the tasting menu enough. The service was just as wonderful. Kevin and Jacki were friendly, welcoming, attentive, but not overbearing. Service: 5

I took my wife to The Neptune for her birthday, opting for the three course menu and an overnight stay on 10 April. If you don’t want to read the rest of this review, all you really need to know is that it was fantastic and fully deserving of a 5 star rating. From start to finish, the atmosphere was welcoming and informal. The service is incredibly polished and friendly, yet at the same time highly efficient and professional which is a difficult balance to strike, but Kevin and Jacki make it look completely effortless. Kevin took our bags to our room and checked our dinner time preference, setting the tone straight away. With just five tables in the dining room, dinner felt cosy and relaxed, which made the whole experience feel personal and comfortable. Now, onto the food - simply superb. The three courses, along with the pre dinner apéritif, amuse bouche and pre dessert palate cleanser, were all excellent. It was a real pleasure having Kevin come out to serve the dishes personally, while Jacki expertly ran the dining room, ensuring everyone was happy and glasses never ran dry. The food isn’t trying to be revolutionary in terms of flavour combinations or presentation, but that’s entirely the point: this is classic British cooking, executed beautifully, and making the very best of local, seasonal produce. That’s exactly what we were hoping for and exactly what we got. Breakfast the following morning was equally fantastic, leaving us with genuinely nothing to criticise. The room itself was spacious, spotlessly clean, well maintained and very comfortable. The bed was large and led to a great night’s sleep. Staying overnight really enhanced the whole experience adding to the intimacy of the place, the enjoyment of the food, and the convenience of being able to fully relax without having to go anywhere afterwards. We enjoyed a fantastic tasting menu and friday evening. The hosts were warm and friendly and the food was delicious. My favourite being the trout and my husbands the john dory. See you again next year! Service: 5
