Room was fantastic. Huge comfy bed and gigantic tub. Service was also excellent across the board. Food was spotty. Definitely would not recommend the tasting menu. 2.5 hours at the table waiting for weird, pretentious food combinations. I had to send to cod back because it was off. Just felt like the chef was trying way too hard to he “creative”.

Thank you Shelley! Glad you enjoyed your stay. Tasting menus by nature are pretentious multi course meals where chefs attempt to show off their skills and creativity. The Cod you rejected was not off and I greatly enjoyed eating it. Another portion was cooked for you just the same as the first, from the same fish wich you seemed happy to eat?!

We stayed in June for some overdue rest and relaxation. We picked The Traddock as we have stayed in Austwick in the past and know the area well. This is a lovely country house hotel, with staff who are friendly, welcoming and where nothing is too much trouble. Our room was very comfortable and overlooked the garden. We opted for bed and breakfast but dined in the brasserie restaurant twice. The restaurant is charming with white linen table cloths and candlelight. The food was nice but the menu was limited. We preferred the starters over the mains. There was no option for additional sides and there was a limited amount of vegetables with the mains, more of a decorative accompaniment. All the mains came with "confit potatoes" which should have been delicious but were not confit in any shape or form, this prompted me to Google confit potatoes as I thought I must have been mistaken. We were served halved small potatoes with the skins on (my husband's pet hate) which had been flashed in a pan to give a little colour but they weren't tender and were quite bitter. The breakfast was delicious with a good choice of cooked options and a lovely buffet style assortment of fruits, yogurt and cereals. So would we stay again? Definitely and would recommend it as the hotel is so welcoming and relaxing, situated in a beautiful village with breathtaking views at every turn and which is ideally placed for exploring the countryside and many walks nearby. We would opt for bed and breakfast again and decide whether to eat in the hotel based on the menu at the time as there is also a great pub in the village serving delicious food with a French twist and its own patisserie bakery.

Thanks Paula. Our restaurant holds 3 AA Rosettes and that puts us in the top 360 uk venues. Our food is fancy but our service and ambiance are relaxed and friendly.
